Alex Primm's web site
| Rivers of Timber: An evening with Stub Borders, Piney River Tie
Rafter, and friends
"Alex Primm as Nathaniel "Stub" Borders"
A performance with Alex Primm dressed as an
old-time tie-hacker and rafter with slides,
music, tools and oral history audio.
Toward the end of the pioneer days in Phelps
County; circa: 1880, thousands of men and
their families across the Ozarks were hacking
ties used by the railroads. These ties were
cut and floated down the streams and creeks
of Phelps county and into larger rivers.
Sometimes the ties were moved all the way to
the town of Pacific in Franklin County. The
tie rafters lived a hard and dangerous life.
Alex Primm will give you an insight into the
life lived by these strong men and women of
this time in our history.
This show will be accompanied by the
"Sometimes Tuesday" music group who have
knowledge of the songs used in this time
period; as well as a song about Stub Borders.
